| September 23, 2009 | First Look: ‘Supernatural’ goes apocalyptic |
In this exclusive First Look from the Oct. 1 episode of The CW’s Supernatural, Dean (Jensen Ackles) finds himself thrust five years into the future, only to discover the world has been ravaged by a disease and inhabited by its zombie-esque victims. But the big revelation is that Dean runs into his future self, now the leader of a resistance camp, which required Ackles to do double the work. Says the star, who’s used to working opposite co-star Jared Padalecki, “The old saying is ‘Acting is reacting.’ I never realized how true it was until I didn’t have anything to react to. I actually ended up using my stunt double just to be the shoulder and the back of the head and he’s not an actor. Poor guy—he gave it his best shot. After every take, he was like, ‘Man, I’m so sorry.’” Fans will even get a glimpse of the future-version of the much-beloved Chevy Impala, but time has not been kind to Winchester brothers’ ride. “He finds his Impala, which is on cinder blocks and it’s all rusted and it’s been gutted,” explains Ackles. “I’m like, ‘Oh baby what did they do to you?’” [Source] |

| September 23, 2009 | Supernatural: If Dean’s in the Future, Then Where’d Sam Go? |
Denise in Milton, Wisc.: There has been a lot of panic among Supernatural fans over the upcoming episode four, the episode in which Dean goes into the future. The panic is over there not being very much of Sam in this episode. Have you heard how much of a role Sam will play in this episode? Will Sam have adequate screentime, or does he just do a cameo? Any info would be greatly appreciated by the panicking fandom. Thank you. Sources tell us that Sam does have fairly limited screentime in episode four, “The End,” airing Oct. 1, but he’s not just being excluded because Dean’s cooler or something. It’s to a purpose. Specifically, sources say that Sam makes an appearance about 10 minutes before the end of the episode, and that his absence from the rest of the hour will “make sense when you see it.” So don’t call it a cameo, and more importantly, don’t panic! Trust the writers—they have a plan. Read the rest of this entry » |

| September 23, 2009 | TV: Supernatural – Season Five |
With the world in the feverish grip of Twilight mania and the likes of True Blood almost single-handedly propping up HBO’s summer schedule at this point, the CW series Supernatural remains criminally ignored as the finest undead oriented hour on the tube. Those still pining for the loss of Buffy, Angel and the glory days of The X-Files could do a lot worse than embracing this stylish teen horror saga and seeking out the early season box sets to satiate their cravings. Playing like a straight-laced Buffy, Supernatural tells the tragic story of the Winchester family; a father, now tragically dead, and his two sons dedicated to tracking and hunting the forces of darkness that killed their mother. Trained as skilled warriors with a wealth of knowledge on the arcane, the mystical, and the occult, Sam and Dean track and slay all manner of ghosts and goblins in their battle to contain the forces of evil. While the idea of two good looking teen brothers dissecting their fractured relationship and familial guilt while driving cross country in search of an unseen father figure might seem a little bit teen soap opera here, but some industry veterans, notably X-Files’ Kim Dickens, ensure that this is some decently adult fair. Though there is nothing particularly groundbreaking here – sparks of ironic humor that could be from the Whedonverse, exposition laced driving sequences that hark back to the travels of Mulder and Scully – it shows surprising verve and a deceptive amount of darkness. | September 23, 2009 | The Watcher: ‘Supernatural’ has evolved beyond angels and demons |
The first half of “Supernatural’s” debut season gave few indications of what the show would become. Back in 2005, as is the case now, there were monsters, ghouls and demons on the prowl. Two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles), would go from city to city in their 1967 Impala and hunt these otherworldly critters down, frequently quipping along the way. But creator Eric Kripke is well aware that “Supernatural,” which returns for its fifth season at 8 p.m. Thursday on WGN-Ch. 9, has evolved far beyond the idea he pitched several years ago. Season 5 depicts the brothers trying to stop the apocalypse, dealing with the arrival of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) and other significant events. Yet the focus of this solid, compelling and funny (yes, funny!) show remains admirably clear: “Supernatural” is less about monsters and more about familial bonds and how they somehow survive self-doubt and radical tests of loyalty.
