Comic Con 2009: God to Finally Appear on ‘Supernatural’

The producers are cautiously approaching the story idea of God who ‘has left the building’ throughout most of the show.

Two things that “” will offer a lot in the fifth season are the re-appearance of old faces and a bunch of new but interesting characters. During the show’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, producers Eric Kripke and Sera Gamble, supported also by screenwriter Ben Edlund, explained that mythological creatures from the bible and even God himself may come at some point of the show.

Since the new season will jump on the apocalypse wagon, The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse is part of the plan. Kripke joked that these people will be modernized, saying “The Four Horsemen are not going to be riding horses but color coordinated muscle cars. Why ride a horse when you can be in a Mustang?”  Read the rest of this entry »

God & Lucifer Come To CW Supernatural’s 5th Season

Kristin Dos Santos at E! online got some major CW “Supernatural” scoops and spoilers at Comic-Con from the producers Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund and Sera Gamble . Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were unable to attend because they are busy shooting the show’s upcoming 5th season in Vancouver.

They first revealed that God will be a character on the Supernatural’s 5th season. The wouldn’t reveal how or where. They said he will not show up anywhere in the beginning of the season.

They did say that they felt they couldn’t bring on the devil without bringing on God also.Next, they talked about there possibly being a 6th season. They originally only wrote the show to go for five seasons because they didn’t think it would last this long. The CW people definitely want it to continue.

They say right now, they are just focusing on making season 5 good, and then they’ll see what they can come up with for a season 6. They also said season five will end what they say, is the first volume, and if there is a season 6,it will be a whole other volume.  Read the rest of this entry »

Supernatural News (Comic-Con)

At this year’s Supernatural panel, stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles (Sam and Dean to those who are missing out) were noticeably absent. Creator Eric Kripke said, “The boys send their love” and when that didn’t cheer up the crowd he added “They are shirtless and send their love.” Joining Kripke were writers Sera Gamble and Ben Edlund, Misha Collins (Castiel) and Jim Beaver (Bobby).

At least years Comic-Con, Kripke showed the first 5 minutes of episode one but because last season ended with a huge spoiler he declined. Kripke instead offered up 5 minutes of footage where (SPOILER ALERT) Castiel (an Angel) is killed, Chuck the prophet returns and Sam turns to the “Dark Side” (black eyes!!).  Read the rest of this entry »

‘Supernatural’ Season 5, or Why Dean Takes Cas to a Whorehouse

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke had plenty of fun Sunday afternoon jesting with Comic-Con fans who were anxious to glean every morsel of info they could about the show’s upcoming fifth season. This is, after all, the season in which Lucifer (Lost‘s Mark Pellegrino) returns to Earth, as the provocative Season 4 ending teased his arrival with Sam and Dean Winchester standing at the entry portal, unprepared.

So with the darkest of all angels about to make his big entrance through the floor, what can fans expect from Season 5? Lots of cool stuff, according to Kripke, writers Sera Gamble and Ben Edlund, and cast members Misha Collins and Jim Beaver—all of whom were present for the Comic-Con Supernatural panel.

After showing a clip from the Season 5 premiere, in which Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) set a house trap for three unscrupulous angels, Kripke talked about portraying Lucifer in innovative ways that haven’t been seen before. This involved an approach being dubbed “herbal teas and fluffy pillows,” or more accurately, making the character sympathetic—a direct reference to the beginning of Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. Kripke said: “He was essentially betrayed, so in some ways he can be viewed sympathetically … if we can make the angels dicks, Lucifer can by sympathetic.”  Read the rest of this entry »

Supernatural’s Deviled Execs Spill (Many) Season Five Secrets

Despite the fact that Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles couldn’t make it to San Diego Comic-Con this year (they’re busy shooting the show up in Vancouver), we did get some serious quality time backstage at press-room roundtables with executive producers and writers Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund and Sera Gamble, and they spilled mondo secrets about the upcoming season five.

Read on to find out why Lucifer’s a surprisingly nice guy, which two fan-favorite hunters are coming back and why Dean might be ditching Sam this season…

You’ve got a lot of explaining to do. What does “God has left the building” mean?
In the mythology of our show, God has gone missing.

Like in Dogma?
Maybe. There’s a lot of cultural references that we could be paying homage to or stealing from, depending on how kind you are, but that god is missing. He is not in heaven. There is a bureaucracy of angels who don’t necessarily have the most benevolent intent, who are running things in his absence and that’s why Zachariah and his ilk have jump-started the apocalypse. I think they just got impatient and there was no one telling them not to.  Read the rest of this entry »
