| February 28, 2009 | New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes Want a Friday the 13th Sequel |
According to The Risky Business Blog, New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes are going full steam ahead on the next installment of Friday the 13th.Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the writers that brought us the recent Friday the 13th reboot, are again drafting the script. The next film is being called “a follow-up.”Since the newest version took aspects of the first 4 films, the producers are finding that they don’t like the other 6 sequels too much.Marcus Nispel might be directing this new version. Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti might also be starring in the new film but based on their TV work schedules that remains to be seen.At present “there is no green light” but should one happen the plan is for it be out in 2010. | February 28, 2009 | Friday The 13th Sequel Gets Started |
Well here’s the least surprising news of the day. After the new reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise grossed $45 million on its opening weekend, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company is going ahead with a sequel. The Hollywood Reporter has good news though– the new one will probably not be based on any of the previous Friday the 13th sequels, given that they all pretty much suck. The question remains whether Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti, the only two survivors of the original film, will return for the second movie; they both have roles on TV shows (Supernatural for him, The Mentalist for her) and might not be able to return. Especially given that roles in horror movies, Jamie Lee Curtis aside, don’t tend to lead to stardom.I’m so unsurprised by this news that I don’t really even know what to say about it. I’m sure we’ll see the same thing happen when the new Nightmare on Elm Street makes a bascrillion dollars, and the horror movie industrial cycle will begin anew. [Source] |

| February 21, 2009 | Friday the 13th remake promises a good scare |
Many professional critics and laymen alike will tell you that there are way too many remakes in Hollywood these days. However, sometimes it’s hard to resist checking out a few of these remakes if they don’t seem like they will completely ruin the original story. The 2009 remake of Friday the 13th seemed to be worth checking out. Seen as a re-imagination rather than a straight remake of the original 1980 classic, Friday the 13th trailers promised a new and scarier Jason with a hip new cast just waiting to be massacred in the woods. After witnessing the beheading of his mother, a young Jason Voorhees lives in the woods and murders anyone who comes to Crystal Lake. Clay Miller, played by Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), comes to the small town searching for his sister who disappeared on a camping trip six weeks earlier. Despite warnings from the police and local citizens, Clay continues searching the town and the woods, eventually coming across a group of teenagers looking forward to a fun-filled weekend at their friend’s cabin. Clay gets help from a girl in this group, but their search for Clay’s sister leads them directly into the clutches of Jason and an action-packed struggle to stay alive. |
