| October 31, 2008 | On the Set of Friday the 13th |
Hail, tornado warnings and other wicked weather have threatened the grounds of Old Settlers Park and the production crew residing here in Round Rock, Texas (about 15 minutes out from Austin) over the last few weeks. But no force of nature can quite match the wrath of Jason Voorhees, the hockey masked thug at the center of ten feature films – eleven if you want to count when he was a wee sprout leaping out of lake to exact watery justice on Adrienne King in the first Friday the 13th.Upon arrival at Old Settlers, generally a family vacation spot, little time is wasted before ShockTillYouDrop.com is met with the all too familiar shrill of a woman’s scream slicing through the incessant buzzing of insects in the air. We follow the cries and trek past a few buildings that look like log cabins relocated from Disney’s Frontier Land – they’re permanent fixtures here and built long before the Hollywood production team moved in. The paved road we traverse turns to gravel, then dirt, then grass as we enter a field that breaks at an unknown acreage of woods. Here is where the crew of Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th (opening February 13, 2009) is camped out witnessing Jason Voorhees menace stars Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti (Return to House on Haunted Hill). Lights direct our attention to an overturned bus lying on its side. Tendrils have crawled into its underbelly; its yellow exterior faded. At the head of this rusted old beast – that currently shows no signs of activity outside, but we can still hear the screaming – sits director Marcus Nispel, reuniting with Platinum Dunes after visiting another horror icon, Leatherface, for 2003′s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He prefers to stay to the orchestrated madness of the scene he’s currently shooting. Nearby, sitting amongst the cast and crew chairs are producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. On the monitors before them we finally get to see what’s happening inside the bus. |

| October 31, 2008 | Interview: Supernatural Star Goes to Camp Blood |
There was a time when Jason Voorhees almost wandered in an America where Supernatural’s Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, existed. This potential cross-over of the Friday the 13th universe and the world of the CW’s surprisingly good series was teased within the pages of the official Supernatural magazine. As the series’ third season revved up, it became clear a battle between the Winchesters and Jason was not going to happen after all. That’s not to say star Jared Padalecki was never bound to have a run in at Camp Blood with horror’s hulking mama’s boy.”I finally get to fight him,” the actor says with a smile. He’s sitting with ShockTillYouDrop.com on the set of Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th lensing in Texas. “I had heard from a few places that they talked about it on the show. They never brought it up with [co-star] Jensen [Ackles] or myself, so it was either writer ideas or fan ideas or something, but it would’ve been fun. But now I get to do it on the big screen.”In this brawl, who gets the upper hand? Well, minutes earlier Derek Mears, the new Jason Voorhees, told us, “I’m going to be stomping Jared’s face very soon.” Judging by Padalecki’s reaction when we press him for details on the scene we’re watching tonight, Mears isn’t wrong.”This is in the heat of the climactic fight/end chase sequence. I’m not fighting as much as I am getting my ass kicked,” Padalecki laughs. “But [Amanda Righetti and I are] on the run, as it happens in Friday the 13th movies, and we’re trying to get away from the scary guy in the hockey mask. He comes up on us and catches us unawares. Makes me into a little pile of mince meat, which is fine.” |

| October 31, 2008 | On Set: Jared Padalecki on the set of FRIDAY THE 13th! |
In between shots of getting chased by a crazed masked man, Jared Padalecki had a few minutes to spend with our group to talk about the film and more! While we were on set, the scene being shot took place in an old overturned school bus. It was full of weeds and dirt, the perfect place for a stand-off between Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti with Derek Mears as a very intimidating Jason Voorhees. How did the bus end up here? Who knows, but the set was dark, dirty and scary. The bus was laying on its side with the main fight sequence taking place on top.Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form took us inside the bus to watch the action. It was intense! Padalecki’s head was being pounded Jason-style through one of the bus windows. How did he feel about the fight? Does he survive? We spoke with Jared following the shot, see what he had to say below! |
